The second pillar of Islam is the daily prayer or Salah, which should be an integral part a Muslim’s life. Called “Salah” or “Salat” in Arabic, prayer is more than an obligatory deed. That sign is your first and continuing act of obedience to Allah (swt) as a believer.

It is a spiritual rite of war to serve as guerilla warfare equipment and self-reinforcement, it does not mean hunting. The believers do not associate it with hardship, but to an increase in closeness and connection directed at their Lord. In Muslims it is the sign of submission and love to Allah by His own servant that he offers prayer as a mark of humility because they want Allah then prayed them.

The prayers of Fardh. It is deemed a serious transgression to skip a fardh salah.

  1. Wajib: Required prayers. Although it is seen as a sin, skipping a wajib salah is not as serious as missing a fardh salah.
  2. Sunnah: The customs of the Prophet. There are two categories in this type:
  3. Muakkadah: The Prophet (ﷺ) regularly practiced this.
  4. Ghair Muakkadah: The Prophet (ﷺ) occasionally done this.
  5. Nafl: Offers of voluntarily.
  6. To determine how many rakats to recite, it is important to memorize the table below, which lists the total amount of rakats for each prayer. A rakat is a single prayer unit, or cycle.

  1. Preparation prior to Salah’s beginning You must ensure that you are physically clean before beginning salah.
  2. The most important steps are as follows: Wash your hands, mouth, nose, face, arms, head, and feet during ablation (Wudu).
  3. The authenticity of your prayer depends on this religious purification.
  4. Wear Clean Clothes: Make sure your clothes are clean and free of contaminants. For the prayer to remain holy, this must be done.
  5. Choose a peaceful and clean location to pray in.
  6. In order to maintain the purity required for salah, the location needs to be clean and free of pollutants and filth.

“O Children of Adam! wear your beautiful apparel at every time and place of prayer” (Quran 7:31).

You are prepared to begin the prayer once you have satisfied the prerequisites.

  1. Niyyah, or intention: Always begin with the appropriate niyyah, or intention, for the particular salah that you are about to offer. This can be done mentally or verbally, such as by saying something like, “I intend to offer the four rakats fardh of the Isha prayer” or “2 rakat nafl for the Zuhr prayer.”
  2. Takbir: Place your feet about four inches apart and stand facing the Qibla. To begin the prayer, raise your hands to your ears and recite the Takbir, “Allahu Akbar,” or “Allah is the Greatest.” Hands should be raised to shoulder height by women.
  3. Standing Qiyam: Cross your hands at chest level, holding the left wrist with your right hand. Say the Thana: The Arabic text reads: All praise and glory to Allah. There is no one else but You who is worthy of worship, blessed be Your name and majesty. Recite the Ta’awwudh and Bismillah afterwards: “A’udhu billahi minash-shaytaanir-rajeem,” he said. Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem.” I seek Allah for protection from the cursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Gracious.

Recite the first chapter of the Quran in Surah Al-Fatiha:

Recite a Surah: Recite an additional verse from the Quran, such as Surah Ikhlas, for the first two rakats:

Ruku, or bowing, entails saying “Allahu Akbar” and bending down with your hands on your knees and your head and back in the same position. Say the Tasbeeh:

Standing up, Qiyam says, “Stand up straight and say:

Jalsah (Sitting): Straighten your back and recite:

Second Sujood: Perform the sujood once more, then get back up to finish one rakat.

Second Rakat: Perform the second rakat in the same manner as the first, but do not recite Sana. Remain seated for Tashahhud following the second sujood of the second rakat. If there are more than two rakats in the prayer, get up for the third one

Recite: Tashahhud Raise your right index finger as a sign of Allah’s unity during the shahada.

After the durood shareef, read Dua.

Dua

Turn your head to the right and then to the left, repeating Tasleem (the prayer’s conclusion): “Asalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah” Peace and Allah’s mercy to you, translated.

  • It is recommended to offer dua after salah, especially after fardh prayers:

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): “Which action is dearest to Allah?” He (ﷺ) replied, “Performing As-Salat (the prayer) at its earliest fixed time.” I asked, “What is next (in goodness)?” He (ﷺ) said, “Kindness towards parents.” I asked, “What is next (in goodness)?” He (ﷺ) said, “To participate in Jihad in the Cause of Allah.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, “Say, if there were a river at the door of one of you in which he takes a bath five times a day, would any soiling remain on him?” They replied, “No soiling would be left on him.” He (ﷺ) said, “That is the five (obligatory) Salat (prayers). Allah obliterates all sins as a result of performing them.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Narrated Tawus: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to place his right hand on his left hand, then he folded them strictly on his chest in prayer.

It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed said: “When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) started to pray, he would say: ‘Subhanakallahumma, wa bihamdika tabarakasmuka wa ta’ala jadduka wa la ilaha ghairuk (Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. Blessed be Your name and exalted be Your majesty, there is none worthy of worship except You.)” Grade: Hasan (Darussalam)

Narrated Abu Huraira: When the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Sami`a l-lahu liman hamidah,” (Allah heard those who sent praises to Him), he would say, “Rabbana wa laka l-hamd.” On bowing and raising his head from it the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say Takbir. He also used to say Takbir on rising after the two prostrations.

Abdullah bin ‘Umar said: “A Sunnah of the prayer is that you should raise your right foot, and make your left foot lie (on the ground).” Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)

It was narrated from Hudhaifah that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say between the two prostrations: “Rabbighfir li, Rabbighfir li (O Lord forgive me, O Lord forgive me).” Grade: Sahih (Darussalam)

It was narrated from Wasi’ bin Habban that: He asked ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He said: “Allahu Akbar” every time he went down and “Allahu Akbar” every time he came up, then he said: “As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah) to his right and: As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah) to his left.” Grade: Sahih (Darussalam)

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked: “At what time does the supplication find the greatest response?” He (ﷺ) replied, “A supplication made during the middle of the last part of the night and after the conclusion of the obligatory prayers.”

Mu’adh ibn Jabal said, “The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took my hand and then said, ‘Mu’adh!’ ‘At your service!’ I said. He said, ‘I love you.’ I replied, ‘And, by Allah, I love you.’ He asked, ‘Shall I teach you some words to say at the end of your prayer?’ ‘Yes,’ I replied. He said, ‘Say [the dua mentioned in post]. Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man heard another reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas repeatedly. The next morning he came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and informed him about it as if he considered it to be of little reward. On that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, this Surah is equal to one-third of the Qur’an.”

Observe the ˹five obligatory˺ prayers—especially the middle prayer1—and stand in true devotion to Allah. (2:238)

O children of Adam, take your adornment [i.e., wear your clothing] at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess. (7:31)

Establish prayer ˹O Prophet˺ at both ends of the day and in the early part of the night.1 Surely good deeds wipe out evil deeds. That is a reminder for the mindful. (11:114)

Observe the prayer from the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night and the dawn prayer, for certainly the dawn prayer is witnessed ˹by angels˺. (17:78)

O believers! Seek comfort in patience and prayer. Allah is truly with those who are patient. (2:153)

those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort. (13:28)

Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, ˹genuine˺ prayer should deter ˹one˺ from indecency and wickedness. The remembrance of Allah is ˹an˺ even greater ˹deterrent˺. And Allah ˹fully˺ knows what you ˹all˺ do. (29:45)
