Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy... The Perfect Man

O Brothers in Islam! Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ), as a human being, is the most complete and perfect personality. The blessed life (Seerah) of the Master of the Universe (ﷺ) is a perfect model for all of humanity, particularly for the Muslim Ummah. In the habits and characteristics, beauty and grace, truthfulness and trustworthiness, method of teaching and learning, approach to invitation and propagation, manner of speech, excellent conduct, and noble character—in all attributes and perfections there is completeness and comprehensiveness.

The Mercy to the Worlds (ﷺ) is the guide for humanity. The Noble Messenger (ﷺ) came to this world as the final Prophet of Allah, the Lord of the worlds. Therefore, the blessed life of the Prophet of Mercy (ﷺ) is a complete practical example for all humans to come until the Day of Judgment. Allah the Almighty says: “There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern…” (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:21). “Indeed, for you in the Messenger of Allah is a fine example to follow!” Therefore, we must also follow the excellent example of the Master of the World (ﷺ) to the best of our ability, for in it lies success and triumph in this world and the hereafter!

The very purpose of the arrival of the Noble Messenger (ﷺ) in this world is the guidance, direction, and reformation of humanity. Therefore, it is natural that all his blessed commands and his blessed life reflect perfection and comprehensiveness. Allah the Almighty says: “It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they were before in clear error.” (Surah Al-Jumu’ah, 62:2).

This is why the Creator of the Universe commanded us clearly in the Holy Quran to obey and follow the commands of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in every matter, to accept them wholeheartedly without hesitation, and not to let our own opinions or intellect run wild. Allah, the Lord of the worlds, says: “And whatever the Messenger has given you – take; and what he has forbidden you – refrain from. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.” (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:7).

God has made you the manifestation of His Own Self,
Whoever wishes to see the Truth, they see it in your mirror.

Respected beloved ones! The perfection of the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ) as a human can be well understood from the fact that Allah sent the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ) as the Teacher of the Universe for the reformation and education of the entire world. In this regard, it is narrated from Hazrat Sayyidina Abdullah bin Amr (RA) that the Master of the Universe (ﷺ) said: “Indeed, I have been sent as a teacher.” (Sunan Ibn Majah).

In another instance, Hazrat Sayyidina Mu’awiyah bin Al-Hakam As-Sulami (RA) said: “By my father and mother! I have never seen a teacher, before him or after him, who taught better than him.” (Sahih Muslim).

Honorable attendees! The Benefactor of Mankind and Jinn (ﷺ) is, in every respect, a supremely great and perfect human. If we were to merely discuss the noble character of the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ), the Holy Quran itself testifies to this. Allah the Almighty says: “And indeed, you are of a great moral character.” (Surah Al-Qalam, 68:4).

When someone asked Hazrat Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa Tayyiba Tahira (RA) about the character of the Mercy to the Worlds (ﷺ), she replied: “His character was the Quran.” (Musnad Ahmad).

Your Creator called your character great, your form He made beautiful,
None has been or will be like you, O King, by the oath of the Creator of beauty and grace!

Honorable respected attendees! The Noble Prophet (ﷺ), as the Perfect Man, is a practical model of superior moral character and excellent conduct. Despite having multiple wives, the Noble Messenger (ﷺ) maintained justice and equality among them all. He assigned turns for each, gave equal time, and comforted them all. Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (RA) states that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would distribute turns justly and would pray to Allah: “O Allah! This is my division in what I control, so do not blame me for what You control and I do not control (i.e., the heart’s inclination).” (Sunan Abi Dawud).

My respected brothers! Today, we often fail to fulfill the demands of justice even with one wife; we inevitably fall short somewhere. In contrast, the Noble Messenger (ﷺ), despite having multiple wives, presented the best practical example of justice and equality, and this is a clear proof of the perfection of Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ)!

Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ), counted good character as part of perfect faith. It is narrated from Hazrat Sayyidina Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character, and the best of you are those who are best to their wives.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi).

In another place, the Crown of Prophethood (ﷺ) said: “The best of you are those who are best to their families, and I am the best of you to my family.” (Sunan Ibn Majah).

Therefore, it is clear that in terms of faith and personality, there is no human more complete and better than the Noble Prophet (ﷺ)!

Beloved ones! The blessed being of the Mercy to the Worlds (ﷺ) is also perfect and complete in this regard: that no one was more compassionate and kinder to children than the Master of the Universe (ﷺ). Hazrat Sayyidina Anas bin Malik (RA) says regarding the love and kindness of the Mercy to the Worlds (ﷺ) towards children: “I have never seen anyone more compassionate towards children than the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).” (Sahih Muslim).

Hazrat Sayyidina Anas bin Malik (RA) was an extremely close companion and devoted servant of the Crown of Prophethood (ﷺ). He observed the Seal of the Prophets (ﷺ) from very close and witnessed his blessed life in great depth. He (RA) says: “I served the Prophet (ﷺ) in Medina for ten years as a young boy. Not everything I did was as my master desired, yet he never said ‘Uff’ (an expression of disgust) to me. He never said to me, ‘Why did you do this?’ or ‘Why didn’t you do this?'” (Sahih Muslim).

My respected brothers! No one knows a person’s habits and traits better than their family and servants. Hazrat Sayyidina Anas’s (RA) testimony about the Messenger of Allah’s (ﷺ) compassion and kindness towards children, and his account of his ten-year observation, is a clear and great proof that the Mercy to the Worlds (ﷺ) is the Perfect Man!

Dear Brother! The Crown of Prophethood (ﷺ) is also the best and most perfect among all creation in terms of his blessed habits and traits. Mentioning the habits and traits of the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ), Hazrat Sayyidina Anas (RA) says: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was not obscene, nor did he curse or use foul language.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

Companions of the Islamic Nation! The being of the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ) was so comprehensive as a human that even the disbelievers and polytheists would call Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ), “The Truthful” and “The Trustworthy.” In Sahih Al-Bukhari, it is narrated from Hazrat Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (RA) that when the verse was revealed: “And warn your closest kinsmen.” (Surah Ash-Shu’ara, 26:214), the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) climbed the hill of Safa and called his clan. When they gathered, the Noble Messenger (ﷺ) addressed them and said: “If I were to tell you that there were horsemen in this valley planning to raid you, would you believe me?” They all said in one voice that they would, for they had never found him to be untruthful.

Respected beloved ones! As a human, the blessed speech of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) was also comprehensive and perfect; for Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ) does not speak from his own desire. Rather, whatever he says is divine revelation. Allah the Almighty says: “Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed.” (Surah An-Najm, 53:3-4).

Honorable respected attendees! The blessed being of the Master of the Universe (ﷺ) is so complete and perfect as a human that Allah, the Lord of the worlds, swore an oath by the luminous, sacred face and blessed locks of the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ). Allah the Almighty says: “By the morning brightness. And by the night when it covers with darkness.” (Surah Ad-Duha, 93:1-2). The esteemed commentators of the Quran say regarding this blessed verse that “the morning brightness” refers to the light of the beauty of Mustafa (ﷺ), and “the night” is used as a metaphor for the Prophet’s (ﷺ) amber-scented locks (hair).

In God’s speech are the sun and the morning light, an oath by your radiant, light-bestowing face,
In the oath of the dark night was this secret: an oath by the beloved’s twofold locks.

Brothers in Islam! In terms of beauty and grace, the blessed being of the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ) is also unparalleled, matchless, and perfect. Allah the Almighty did not create any equal to Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ). Hazrat Sayyidina Ali Murtaza (RA) said: “I have never seen anyone like him, before or after him (ﷺ).” (Shama’il At-Tirmidhi).

Imam Al-Qastallani (رحمة اللہ علیہ) said: “Part of perfecting one’s faith in the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) is to also believe that Allah the Almighty fashioned the body of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) in such a way that no one before him or after him has been created in that manner.”

Such is the perfection of the beauty of the Presence, that no thought of flaw exists,
This very flower is far from thorns, this very candle is without smoke.

My respected brothers! The manner of speech of the Master of the Universe (ﷺ) was also, as a human, the most delightful, unique, and perfect. Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ), would repeat important matters three times and would speak slowly and clearly so that if anyone missed something while listening, they could clarify it. Hazrat Sayyidina Anas (RA) narrates about this delightful manner of speech and teaching style of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ): “When he spoke a word, he would repeat it three times so that it would be understood. And when he came to a people and greeted them, he would greet them three times.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

I am devoted to your speech; if one were to receive it, who wouldn’t gain an tongue?
That is a discourse which has no discourse, that is an explanation which has no explanation!

My dear friends, brothers, and elders! Allah, the Lord of the worlds, created the Noble Messenger (ﷺ) in outward form like us, as a human (Bashar), but the reality of the Mercy to the Worlds (ﷺ) is so exalted and lofty that it is beyond our comprehension. Hazrat Sayyidina Abu Hurairah (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade fasting continuously (without break). Some people said: “O Messenger of Allah! But you fast continuously!” The Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ) said: “Which of you is like me? Indeed, I spend the night with my Lord; He feeds me and gives me drink.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari). Therefore, those who consider Mustafa, the Essence of Mercy (ﷺ), to be a human like themselves should correct their beliefs and opinions and strive to recognize the true status and rank of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ)!

Your throne of pride is the Highest Throne, your confidant is the Innermost Spirit,
You alone are the master of both worlds, O King, by God, you have no equal!

O Allah! Grant us the ability to act upon the Sunnah, Seerah, and teachings of the Noble Messenger (ﷺ). Grant us the fortune to respect and honor him. Bestow upon us the passion to follow his blessed life. Grant us the opportunity to serve the true religion sincerely. Make us good and practicing Muslims. Protect our beliefs and actions, and if there is any shortcoming in them, remove it.

O Allah! Purify our inner and outer selves from all impurities. Grant us the ability to reform our lives according to the Quran and Sunnah, acting upon the guidance of Your Noble Beloved (ﷺ), and to obey with the true love and sincerity felt for the Master of the Two Worlds (ﷺ) and his noble companions.

O Allah! Keep us steadfastly loyal to the religion of Islam. Make us true, firm, practicing lovers of the Prophet (ﷺ). Create an atmosphere of unity in our ranks. Make us regular in performing the five daily prayers in congregation. Save us from laziness and idleness. Grant us the wealth of sincerity in every good deed. Grant us the ability to perform all obligatory and necessary acts in the best manner. Protect us from miserliness and stinginess. Grant us the ability to help the poor and needy with a cheerful heart.

O Allah! Grant us the good fortune to serve and protect our country and nation. Strengthen our mutual unity, harmony, love, and affection. Grant us the ability to act upon the commandments of the Shariah correctly. Accept our prayers in Your Court of Supreme Refuge. We ask You for Your mercy. We seek Your forgiveness. We seek safety and deliverance from every sin. We ask You for all that is good. Remove our sorrows. Pay off our debts. Grant complete healing to our sick. Fulfill our needs!

O Most Generous Lord! Grant blessing in our lawful sustenance. Always keep us safe from being dependent on Your creation. Grant us the ability to worship with Your love and obedience. Widen our chests and soften our hearts for the sake of Your creation. O Divine! Make our character good and our works excellent. Accept our good deeds. Protect us from all sins. Grant freedom to our oppressed Palestinian and Kashmiri Muslim brothers and sisters suffering from the brutality of the disbelievers. Protect the lives, wealth, honor, and dignity of Muslims all over the world. Resolve their problems with goodness and blessing for them. Amen, O Lord of the worlds!

And may Allah the Exalted send blessings upon the best of His creation and the light of His Throne, our master, our prophet, our beloved, the apple of our eyes, Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions, and may He send blessings and peace. And all praise is to Allah, the Lord of the worlds
